Actually, source was available for patchadd & patchrm (they are shell
scripts after all), and they were included in first release of the
OpenSolaris distro, before they were removed for being incompatible
with ksh93:

The tools to create patches that they could apply were closed source (and
I thought were Sun-internal only, though it seems at least some external
people figured out how to make patches - not sure if that was via their
own tools or a release of Sun's).

Not that any of that matters to whether or not you should continue to
support them.
