I'd like comments on this prior to Thursday (March 3rd), when I hope
to seek approval and integrate.

Gordon suggested I provide binaries, so I've made a SUNWonld package
available at
  http://richlowe.net/~richlowe/SUNWonld-nightly-i386.tar.gz

If you're going to try it, I strongly suggest you do so in a new boot
environment which you are happy
to throw away as It replace systems binaries, as well as installing
the bits at /opt/SUNWonld.
It may work in a zone on a suitably up-to-date GZ, but I haven't tried.
